DISTRICT INDUSTRIES CENTRE , PURI                                               

                   District Industries Center(DIC) , Puri is formed in the year 1978,
         alongwith all other DICs all over India with a view to provideall sorts of
         assistance to the entrepreneurs under the single roof for the healthygrowth
         of industry sector in Puri district. It works for providing employment to
         educated unemployed youth and meaningful utilization and development
         of traditional artisans.Some of the primary activities of DIC,Puri is as given
         below.
 

            I)SMALL SCALE INDUSTRIES SECTOR

           *
Identification of prospective entrepreneurs for industrialization  of the
            district.
         * Project guidance and assistance to entrepreneurs for provisional and
            permanent registration of small scale industries.
        
* Identification and reporting of SSI units gone into production.
         * Survey of SSI units to ascertain their health and assistance to sick
            industries for its revival.
         * To provide various concessions/grants like capital investment subsidy,
            electrical duty exemption, octroi & sales tax exemption under different
            Industrial Policy Resolutions to SSI entrepreneurs for proper industrial
            growth.
         * To provide loans to educated unemployed youth under Prime Minister’s
            Rozgar Yojana(PMRY) to set up different ventures.
         * To help entrepreneurs for availing financial assistance from various
            financial institutions to set up their units.
         *  To help SSI units for Export Promotion & Marketing(EPM) registration

         II) PRIME MINISTER’S ROZGAR YOJANA ( PMRY ) 
  
                                 Prime Minister’s Rozgar Yojana (PMRY) was  implemented
          in the year 1993-94.The scheme became operational on dt.02/10/1993
         and it was implemented in the urban area during the year 1993-94 and
         thereafter it is being implemented both in urban and rural area.The
         scheme provides projects up to Rs.1.00 lakh in business sector and
         Rs.2.00 lakh in service and industry sector. The scheme has fetched
         appreciable successin creating employment among the unemployment
         youth.

               III) HANDICRAFT AND COTTAGE INDUSTRIES SECTOR :

                               Since Puri district is having a rich traditional culture and heritage,
             it has a tremendous potential in handicraftand cottageindustry sector. The
             original source of this industry is temple craft of  Lord Jagannath and world
             famous Sun temple of Konark. DIC, Puri  has played a meaningful role in
             imparting training and upgrading the skill of traditional artisan families and
             economic weaker section people for boosting up their per capita income
             through DIC promotional schemes like TRYSEM,SEEUY,handicraft training
             schools,coir training centers  etc. It has spread skill and upgraded the traditional
             artisan activities for economic development of targeted group. Now the district
             is in a state of command in handicrafts like applique,stone carving,patta chitra,
             wood carving,modern patchwork,tearracota,bell metal item,sea shell items etc.

             Some of the main activities of DIC,Puri in handicraft sector as given below.

             * Identification of artisans and assists them under various schemes for grant
                of financial assistance.
             * To assist the artisans for marketing their products through GMCS and
                OCHC.
             * Survey of availability of  local raw materials,marketing possibility and type
                of skill.
             * To monitor training programmes of schemes like woolen carpet,coir etc.
             * To provide composite loan for handicraft artisans.
             * Monitors Khadi & Village industries sector programs like Special
                Employment Program(SEP) and   other rural industries schemes.

                                                                   training govt. will provide Rs.50,000/-
                                                                   as seed money to the society.
