INTRODUCTION

Information and public Relations Department (I.&P.R.) as a separate wing of government is functioning in Puri District since 1952 . After independence this Department played a major role in disseminating informations about new form of govt. and making public aware of the changes happening around affecting the time, life and society in totality. After a long and oppressive rule of British, it was call of the time to spread sown to the potion of the society, the new concepts, democracy and democratic values, welfare Government, constitution and visionary blue print for future growth of India, as a nation in all pervasive spheres. Some freedom fighters took this as an opportunity to continue their crusade for social reforms and joined the department for which the department can be credited with a glorious past records in terms of quality of work and personnel . Since then the department has metamorphosed into a mere vibrant and structured form making use of mere modern approach keeping the modes and ideals in tact.

The basic idea is to keep the people informed and create an affective two-way system between the public and government for which the department works in various ways to fulfill its duties and obligations . The following user-friendly informations will highlight the mode of work of the department

EXHIBITION

The department organizes Exhibitions in collaboration with other departments in District Level as well as in local levels where programmes and policies of the Government, Cultural others & identies and social values are highlighted.,

PRESS SERVICE

To keep rapport with the fourth estate, department remains on high alert and provides them with necessary information including news about achievements programmes of the District Administration. The department maintains and regularly updates the list of Journalists working for various agencies in the District. A Press Room equipped with basic amenities is in their service. News published about the district are collected and submitted by the collection daily.

FILM SHOWS

Department organize film shows with a mobile projection & sometimes with mobile Video Vans in different parts of the districts other awareness films and document arises are screening and direct interaction with the public is made through group talks to know the pulse of the people and keep them informed about responses from the Government.

LIBRARY SERVICE

One well-equipped library have spacious reading room is functioning in District Headquarters. The library has books, journals and documents on wide ranging subjects in Oriya, English, Hindi, & Bengali languages with major newspapers and has lending facility to members only. This library functions, as Information Center also the working hour of library is 8 A.M. to 11 A.M. and 5 P.M. to 8 P.M.

Apart from district library, three Information Center –Cum- Library are functioning in Konark, Pipili and Sakhigopal without I &P.R staffs. .

INFORMATION CENTRE

One Information Center is operating near Lions Gate, Sri Mandir to cater to specific needs of Tourists and Pilgrims. It functions in two shifts me 7 a.m. to 9.30 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 8.30p.m. Providing vital information to Tourists and general public as per need and demand. National as well as regional news bulletins are broadcast through radio and T.V. using public address system.

ENTERTAINMENT PROGRAMMES

Department has enlisted a good number of traditional folk artists and uses their services on various occasions where large gatherings occur . This mode of communications provides entertainment informations and education in a subtle way . And also people get expressed to rich variety of folk traditions of Orissa programmes can be requested by the public and special occasions also .

INFORMATION SERVICE

                                                The Department opens temporary need based information centers in fairs and festivals including Car Festivals , Chandra Bhaga mela, Anla Nabami Mela, Jagara Mela etc.where timely and user friendly informations are made to the public. . Announcement about missing pesons are also made . Government publications mainly Utkal Prasang & Orissa Review and free literatures published by the department are sold in thesecentres and free literatures are also distributed to general public .

CELEBRATIONS

                             The department organiises National days celebrations and other important days in right manner where involvement of people from different state of society is given top priority .

                             The National celebration like Republic Day,Orissa Day,Independence Day Childrens Day and Gandhi Jayanti etc. also celebrated.

                             Apart from this Gopabandhu Jayanti,Chakhikhuntia Jayanti,Jai Rajguru Jayanti,atibadi Jagannath Das Jayanti,Bijoy Dibas , Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Jayanti, are also celebrated by the District information and Public Relations Department.
