

PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM
OBJECTIVE
Soon after receipt of Govt. allotment of different commodities of a particular month, the Collector, Puri reallocates the same among the different Blocks, Municipalities and N.A.C., as per card strength and direct the C.S.O. – cum – District Manager, OSCSC Ltd. Puri to purchase & distribute the same to the different area through his agencies like Storage Agent and Retailers.
Scheme
The scheme envisages distribution of BPL and Antyodaya rice @ Rs. 2/- Kg. with effect from 1st August, 2008 to all families presently getting rice under these schemes. Rice will also be supplied to all SC/ST boarders in hostels run and / or funded by SC & ST Development Department @ Rs. 2/- Kg. Similarly BPL Rice being supplied to different welfare Institution @ 6.30 per Kg.
Supply of BPL Rice
BPL Rice is being supplied @ Rs. 2.00 Kg. to all the BPL families in Puri District from August 2008. The scale of entitlement is 25 Kg. per family per month. 1,46,755 BPL families are getting benefit under this scheme. Prior to this the consumer price was Rs. 6.30 per Kg.
Antyodaya Anna Yojana
35 Kg. rice per family per month is being provided for 41,871 AAy families @ Rs. 2/- per Kg. from August 2008. Prior to this the consumer price was Rs. 3 per Kg.
Annapurna Yojana
Under “Annapurna Scheme” 10 Kgs og foodgrains per month are provided free of cost to the destitute, aged 65 years and above.
Eiligilibility Criteria
- The age of the person (Male or female) should be 65 years or above.
- The person must be destitute in the sense of having little or on regular means of subsistence from his/her own source of Income or through financial support from family members or other sources.
- The person should not be in receipt of pension under the national old age pension scheme or state pension scheme.
At present nearly 2672 beneficiaries have been identified & 10 Kgs of food grains free of cost are being distributed to them.
Subsidized PDS Kerosene
PDS Kerosene at subsidized rate is supplied to ration card holders. The scale of entitlement is up-to 3.5 liters per card per month.
Coverage & Scale of Entitlement
The scheme will cover about 55.79 Lakh beneficiaries entitled to BPL and Antyodaya rice as per the following details.

The retailers are being appointed by the concerned Sub-Collector where necessary within their jurisdiction on the recommendation of TLAC for urban areas & BLAC for rural areas through resolution except the district head quarters in where Additional District Magistrate in-charge of Public Distribution System will appoint retailer on the recommendation of TLAC. In respect of urban areas, the interested persons will apply in plain paper for appointment of retailer to the respective appointing authorities by mentioning his / her financial ability business experience. Area of operation and storage facility etc. for the purpose.
The application received by the authority will be forwarded to the concerned Block Development Officers in case of rural areas and concerned Civil Supplies field functionaries for its proper enquiry and report which will be placed before the TLAC / BLAC for recommendation of their appointment.
